National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC)

Company introduction

The National Metal and Materials Technology Center (MTEC) was established by the Cabinet Resolution on September 16, 1986. MTEC’s primary objective is to support research and development in metals and materials technologies. On December 29, 1991, MTEC became a member of the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Ministry of Science, Technology and Energy (then).

Vision
MTEC is recognized by the stakeholders as a major driving force for the socio-economic development of the country. This is accomplished through science, technology and innovation in materials technologies and manufacturing and through the collaboration between our personnel. MTEC will deliver high-quality works that not only satisfy our customers but also create socio-economic benefits for the country.

MTEC adheres to its missions in conformity with the National Science and Technology Development Agency’s 6th Strategic Plan (2017-2021) and the Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategic Plan. The objectives are to conduct the research and development that meet the needs of various sectors, solve the real-world problems, and help businesses develop their products and services. The works thus contribute significantly to socio-economic impacts.
MTEC’s operational guidelines focus on an integration of various activities related to the following frameworks:

• Excellence: Carrying out R&D works with expertise and professionalism to achieve high quality R&D outputs.
• Relevance: Complying with the Thailand’s 20-Year National Strategic Plan and the needs of target users.
• Impact: Creating an appreciable economic impact, improving the life quality of the people and enhancing the country’s competitiveness through research, development and engineering.
• Visibility: Building customer trust and confidence in MTEC’s work and expertise at national, regional and international levels.

In MTEC, there are 7 major research groups, which carry out the research and development in various fields of expertise:
• Material Processing and Manufacturing Automation Research Group
• Engineering Design and Computation Research Group
• Environment Research Group
• Ceramic Research Unit
• Advanced Polymer Technology Research Group
• Biofunctional Materials and Devices Research Group
• Innovative Rubber Manufacturing Research Group

MTEC’s operational pathways for R&D encompass the development of materials technology platform, in order to enhance the accumulation of knowledges and capability in response to the rapid changes in technologies. The pathways also include infrastructure development and other factors which are crucial to future development of the country, as well as generate cumulative knowledge based on various fields of science and technology in order to serve the needs of the country. The domains of utilization are categorized into 5 major groups as follows:
• Safety and Quality of Life
• Agro-based Industry
• Agriculture
• Manufacturing and Engineering Services Industry
• Health and Wellness
In addition, there is a target technology development group namely Rail and Modern Transport.

ศูนย์เทคโนโลยีโลหะและวัสดุแห่งชาติ (เอ็มเทค) จัดตั้งขึ้นตามมติคณะรัฐมนตรี เมื่อวันที่ 16 กันยายน 2529 เพื่อเป็นหน่วยงานเฉพาะทางที่สนับสนุนการวิจัยและพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีทางด้านโลหะและวัสดุ ต่อมาเมื่อวันที่ 29 ธันวาคม 2534 ได้เข้าร่วมเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของสำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติ (สวทช.)

วิสัยทัศน์
กระทรวงวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยีและการพลังงาน (ชื่อในขณะนั้น) วิสัยทัศน์ เอ็มเทคเป็นที่ยอมรับจากผู้มีส่วนได้ส่วนเสียในฐานะหน่วยงานสำคัญที่ขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของประเทศด้วยวิทยาศาสตร์ เทคโนโลยี และนวัตกรรมด้านเทคโนโลยีวัสดุและการผลิต สะท้อนได้จากคุณภาพของผลงานที่เกิดจากความเชี่ยวชาญของทีมวิจัยตรงความต้องการของผู้ใช้ประโยชน์ สร้างผลกระทบเชิงบวกต่อเศรษฐกิจและสังคมอย่างมีนัยสำคัญอันเกิดจากการมีส่วนร่วมของบุคลากรมืออาชีพในองค์กร

เอ็มเทค ดำเนินงานตามพันธกิจในทิศทางที่สอดคล้องและเชื่อมโยงกับแผนกลยุทธ์ของสำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติ (สวทช.) ฉบับที่ 6 (ปีงบประมาณ 2560-2564) ซึ่งเชื่อมโยงกับยุทธศาสตร์ชาติและแผนงานระดับประเทศ มีวัตถุประสงค์หลักในการทำวิจัยและพัฒนาเพื่อสร้างผลงานที่ตอบสนองความต้องการของภาคส่วนต่างๆ และการนำผลงานวิจัยไปใช้ประโยชน์ในการแก้ไขบรรเทาปัญหาหรือพัฒนากิจการ อันจะก่อให้เกิดผลกระทบที่มีนัยสำคัญเชิงเศรษฐกิจและสังคม แนวทางการทำงานของเอ็มเทค มุ่งเน้นความร้อยเรียงตามกรอบแนวคิด 4 ด้าน ดังนี้

• Excellence: การดำเนินงานด้วยความเชี่ยวชาญและความเป็นมืออาชีพเพื่อสร้างสรรค์ผลงานที่มีคุณภาพ
• Relevance: ความเชื่อมโยงและตอบสนองต่อยุทธศาสตร์ประเทศและความต้องการของผู้ใช้ประโยชน์
• Impact: การสร้างผลกระทบในเชิงเศรษฐกิจคุณภาพชีวิต และความสามารถในการแข่งขันจากการดำเนินงานวิจัย พัฒนา และวิศวกรรม
• Visibility: ความเชื่อมั่นและการยอมรับในคุณภาพและความเชี่ยวชาญในระดับประเทศ ภูมิภาค และระดับโลก

เอ็มเทค มีกลุ่มวิจัยหลัก ทั้งหมด 7 กลุ่ม ซึ่งดำเนินงานภายใต้พันธกิจของสวทช. รวมไปถึงขับเคลื่อนเศรษฐกิจและสังคม โดยประกอบด้วย
• กลุ่มวิจัยกระบวนการทางวัสดุและการผลิตอัตโนมัติ
• กลุ่มวิจัยการออกแบบเชิงวิศวกรรมและการคำนวณ
• กลุ่มวิจัยด้านสิ่งแวดล้อม
• กลุ่มวิจัยเซรามิกส์และวัสดุก่อสร้าง
• กลุ่มวิจัยเทคโนโลยีโพลิเมอร์ขั้นสูง
• กลุ่มวิจัยวัสดุและอุปกรณ์เฉพาะทางชีวภาพ
• กลุ่มวิจัยนวัตกรรมการแปรรูปยาง

งานวิจัยของเอ็มเทค ครอบคลุมตั้งแต่การพัฒนาเทคโนโลยีฐานด้านเทคโนโลยีวัสดุ เพื่อเสริมสร้างองค์ความรู้และขีดความสามารถ ให้สามารถรองรับการเปลี่ยนแปลงอย่างรวดเร็วของเทคโนโลยี การพัฒนาโครงสร้างพื้นฐานและปัจจัยต่างๆ ที่จำเป็นต่อการพัฒนาประเทศในอนาคต การสร้างองค์ความรู้ใหม่จากหลายศาสตร์ ตลอดจนการวิจัยเพื่อตอบโจทย์สำคัญของประเทศ โดยกลุ่มเป้าหมายการใช้ประโยชน์ของผลผลิตจากงานวิจัยแบ่งเป็น 5 กลุ่มหลัก

• อุตสาหกรรมฐานเกษตรกรรม
• เกษตรกรรม
• อุตสาหกรรมการผลิตและการบริการทางวิศวกรรม

นอกจากนี้ยังมีกลุ่มเทคโนโลยีเป้าหมายอีก 1 กลุ่ม ได้แก่ เทคโนโลยีระบบรางและการขนส่งสมัยใหม่
